Vijay Kumar, who shot into the limelight by directing and starring in the political action thriller film Uriyadi (2016), is set to be seen next in the much-awaited Fight Club being presented by blockbuster Tamil filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. The upcoming film directed by debutant Abbas A. Rahmath is scheduled to open in cinemas worldwide on December 15 and had an action-packed teaser released a few days back to a rousing response from fans. With promotions in full swing for Fight Club, Vijay Kumar recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Galatta to talk about the film along with composer Govind Vasantha and Monisha Mohan Menon, who is playing the female lead.

Last seen in Uriyadi 2 (2019), Vijay Kumar, who has also penned the dialogues in Suriya's Soorarai Pottru (2020), opened up on how Lokesh Kanagaraj boarded Fight Club. He said, "It just happened. This was supposed to happen and I feel that the time chosen was right. This has been discussed since 2017 and happened organically. It was my wish to show the film to my friend after finishing the work on it. And, after Lokesh watched it, he said that we'll do it. Everything happened naturally." He further stated, "This film is now Lokesh's film. It's our film. It has become a part of his career. There wasn't any plan on doing this or that." Addressing Lokesh Kanagaraj's phenomenal growth in Tamil cinema, Vijay Kumar said, "I'm very happy. We can't celebrate our victories in a big way because it might come across as artificial. But, when it's our friend's victory, we can celebrate as much as we want to and it won't seem wrong. My friend's success is my success."
