In a shocking incident, a taxi driver was arrested in Kolkata on Tuesday for allegedly harassing actress and All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mimi Chakraborty while she was traveling in her car. A highly popular name in Bengali cinema, Mimi lodged a complaint at the Gariahat police station after the untoward incident she had encountered during her travel. The actress in her complaint stated that the incident had taken place on Monday night near the Ballygunge Phari area and alleged that the taxi driver passed lewd and vulgar comments against her after which authorities had nabbed the accused, who was identified as Deba Yadav. 

In her complaint, Mimi stated, "The fact of the case is that on 14.9.20 at 13.30 hrs while the complainant was moving on her car along Gariahat road from Ballygunge Phari towards Gariahat crossing, an unknown driver of taxi misbehaved with the complainant." According to reports, the 32-year-old Deba has been charged under sections 354, 354A, 354D, 509 of the Indian Penal Code. 

Mimi Chakraborty, who is set to be seen as Mahishasuramardini, in a Mahalaya special show, directed by filmmaker Kamaleshwar, will reportedly also feature Jeetu Kamal as Ram and Madhumita Sarcar as Sita. The actress had been under home quarantine for 14 days earlier this year in March after she had returned home from shooting for an upcoming project titled Baazi in London. Mimi had said that she returned to India after boarding a connecting flight from the UK via Dubai. She informed that all necessary precautions had been undertaken and that she had let her parents know in advance not to meet her during quarantine. 

Representing TMC in the Jadavpur constituency, Mimi had added then that the world is at a bad place due to the COVID-19 outbreak and expressed hope for the pandemic to pass off. She added that the people must follow the directives proposed by the government which includes cleanliness, washing our hands on a frequent basis, taking all precautions while also maintaining social distancing.
