New honors continue to be bestowed upon Suriya's Soorarai Pottru as the critically-acclaimed action drama film, which had earlier gotten selected at the nominations for Oscars this year, has now entered the Panorama Section of the Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) 2021, which is set to take place this year from June 11 to June 20. The film directed by Sudha Kongara and featuring chart-buster music by G. V. Prakash Kumar has turned out to be a grand success for Suriya after its grand premiere last November on Amazon Prime Video. 

Earlier this year, Soorarai Pottru had left Tamil cinema fans beaming with pride after it had entered the Oscar 2021 race in the Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Original Score, and several other categories. Jointly produced by Suriya's 2D Entertainment and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment banners, the film went on to become one of the most-watched Tamil ventures on Amazon Prime Video. Soorarai Pottru, which revolves around the character Nedumaran Rajangam overcoming obstacles at every turn in order to make it big in the aviation industry with his own airliner, had skipped its theatrical release due to the pandemic and was subsequently announced for an OTT release, which as well initially got pushed from October 30 to November 12 after a delay in obtaining the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian Air Force (IAF). 

Apart from Suriya, actress Aparna Balamurali, who played the female lead, captivated fans everywhere with her fiery performance, with praises pouring in for the film's supporting cast among whom include veteran actress Urvashi, Bollywood actor Paresh Rawal, Telugu superstar Mohan Babu, Karunas, Vivek Prasanna, Kaali Venkat and Krishna Kumar. Composer GV Prakash too garnered immense adulation for his massive contribution to Soorarai Pottru in the form of his chart-buster songs and thunderous background score. Dubbed in Telugu as Aakaasam Nee Haddhu Ra, Soorarai Pottru has been inspired from the life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of the Air Deccan airliner.
