Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor directed by Nelson Dilipkumar of Kolamaavu Kokila and the in progress 'Thalapathy' Vijay-starrer Beast has been a film that has been awaited by fans for quite some time. A joint production venture of Sivakarthikeyan’s SK Productions and Kotapadi J Rajesh’s KJR Studios, the film touted to be a black comedy was Initially announced for a theatrical release in March last year, before getting pushed indefinitely due to the pandemic. For a while now, there were speculations and rumors doing the rounds that Doctor could be skipping a theatrical outing completely and instead premiere on a leading OTT streaming platform. 

With the Tamil Nadu government recently giving the nod to theatre owners to reopen their cinema halls and multiplexes once again in accordance with the COVID-19 protocols, several production banners have since announced the release plans of their films. Considering the ongoing month of September is already jam-packed with a tight film release schedule and the Vishal and Arya-starrer Enemy officially announced to come out as an Ayudha Puja treat on October 14, KJR Studios took to social media on Thursday to surprise fans by dropping a massive update about Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor. KJR Studios has announced that Doctor is indeed releasing in theatres first and will be out on the big screen in October. The tweet read, "Set all the speculations aside. Get ready for your laughter shot! #Doctor is coming to the big screen in October 2021! This decision is only for the fans and our dearest theatre owners #DoctorInTheatres". Sivakarthikeyan's fans will be mighty happy with the latest announcement for Doctor considering many had expressed their desire to watch the film in theatres and the final release date can be expected to be made known soon in the days ahead. The film has Sivakarthikeyan paired opposite South Indian sensation Priyanka Arul Mohan, with Vinay Rai as the antagonist. Yogi Babu, Milind Soman, Arun Alexander, Sunil Reddy, and Redin Kingsley are set to be seen in major important roles. Featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander, three songs from the film have been released - 'Chellamma', 'Nenjame' and 'So Baby' - and have received a tremendous response. The buzz is quite high for Doctor considering Nelson Dilipkumar is currently directing Vijay in Beast and fans are waiting to witness what he has delivered with the Sivakarthikeyan-starrer.
