Popular Punjabi singer Sardool Sikander passed away on Wednesday due to COVID-19 at Mohali in Punjab. He was 60. Known among fans most notably for his chart-busters songs namely 'Ek Charkha Gali De Vich' and 'Sanu Ishq Barandi Chad Gayi', the acclaimed singer had been undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mohali after he tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The news of Sardool's death was confirmed by Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Twitter. He tweeted, "Extremely saddened to learn of the demise of legendary Punjabi singer Sardool Sikander. He was recently diagnosed with #Covid19 and was undergoing treatment for the same. The world of Punjabi music is poorer today. My heartfelt condolences to his family and fans." 

Similarly, Former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal too expressed his sorrow at the news of the Sardool’s death and wrote, "saddened to learn about the demise of legendary Punjabi playback singer Sardool Sikander. A huge loss to Punjabi movie & music Industry. Prayers for his family, friends & fans. May his soul rest in peace!" Soon after, many more condolences and tributes began pouring in for Sardool from politicians and celebrities from around the country. Preneet Kaur, former Minister of State For External Affairs, also tweeted, "Saddened by the demise of legendary Punjabi singer and music icon Sardool Sikander Ji. His sudden death has left a big vacuum in Punjabi music industry and also in the hearts of millions of fans worldwide. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. RIP".

Many in the music and entertainment industry too expressed shock at the news of Sardool Sikander's passing away due to COVID-19. Singer Vishal Dadlani tweeted, "I can't believe #SardoolSikander -Saab has left us. This is heartbreaking and far too personal. :( A true pioneer, he was the soul of humility & a wellspring of music. My condolences to the family, esp. to my brothers @AlaapSikander & @SarangSikander1". Actress Zareen Khan wrote, "This feels like a personal loss ... Rest in Peace, Legend Sardool Sikander ji #Iconic #Legend #RIP #SardoolSikander"

Son of Tabla player Sagar Mastana, Sardool Sikander began his career in the music industry in the 1980s and rose to fame in quicktime. He had produced more than 25 albums in his glorious 30-year career, with his 1991 album Husna de Malko selling out more than 5 million copies.
