American actor Paul Herman, known for playing the role of club owner Peter 'Beansie' Gaeta in the acclaimed crime drama television series The Sopranos, died on Tuesday, March 29, on his 76th birthday. The news was confirmed by Herman's Sopranos co-star Michael Imperioli in an Instagram post. No cause of death has been revealed yet. Sharing a picture, Imperioli wrote in the caption: "Our friend and colleague PAUL HERMAN has passed away. Paulie was just a great dude. A first class storyteller and raconteur and one hell of an actor. Goodfellas, Once Upon a Time in America , The Irishman and of course The Sopranos are some highlights. Paulie lived around the corner from me the last few years and i am glad we got to spend some time together before he left us. I’ll miss him. Lots of love to his family, friends, and our community of actors and filmmakers."
Herman made his acting debut in the 1982 comedy film, Dear Mr. Wonderful, starring Joe Pesci. He went on to make major appearances subsequently over the next two decades including The Purple Rose of Cairo, Big, Heat, Analyze That, Crazy Heart, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and Martin Scorcese's The Irishman. He also played minor background characters in Scorcese's Goodfellas, Casino, The Color of Money, and The Last Temptation of Christ. Herman, who played Randy in Silver Linings Playbook and Whispers DiTullio in The Irishman, took home the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for American Hustle. He was also seen on television in shows like The Equalizer and Miami Vice.
