Maamannan is the next big film of the director Mari Selvaraj who previously made the films Karnan and Pariyerum Perumal. The film has Udhayanidhi Stalin, 'Vaigai Puyal' Vadivelu, Keerthy Suresh and Fahad Faasil in pivotal roles. Ahead of the release of the film on June 29, the cast of the film with the filmmaker gave an exclusive interview with the National Award-winning film critic Baradwaj Rangan, the editor-in-chief of Galatta Plus. As the host asked how the filmmaker would choose such strong titles to his films. Mari Selvaraj said “First, I would name the character that I write that way because it gives me positivity and takes me on the path”

The director said that they did not fix the name Maamannan in the script and it was just writte as Appa. He said that one-day Udhayanidhi Stalin asked him the title of the film. The director said “I asked him shall we keep Mannadhi Mannan” and revealed that he then proposed the name Maamannan, after he dismissed that name. “He asked how this would match the film and I said appa character name in the film is Maamannan" and the actor was also doubtful if it will connect with the movie, said the director. The director then explained the connect of the title with the script and revealed the reason and he said "super". The direction then said for Karnan the character was named Karnan and actor Dhanush suggested the same for the titles but he had the titles Pandiya Rajakkal in mind. He said "the titles of my films push me, to compose shots and create metaphors in the film." The director further explained if they use a name like Karnan as titled it should not be taken easily. He then said "everyone were surprised and liked the title Maamannan and they were astonished that anybody had registered it at that time."
