Veteran Kannada actress and writer Bhargavi Narayan, who is known for her appearances in films and television shows, died on Monday night. She was 83. According to reports, she had been suffering from an age-related illness, with her family telling the media that she had pledged her body for donation to the St. John’s Hospital. The news of Bhargavi's demise was announced by her granddaughter Samyukta Hornad, who posted a photo of the late actress and paid her tribute on Instagram. She wrote, "My grandma… Ajji Bhajji… has passed on, today at 7.30 pm." Bhragavi is survived by Belavadi Nanjundaiah Narayana, known in the industry as Makeup Nani, and children Sudha Belawadi and Prakash Belawadi.

Bhargavi landed starring roles in more than 20 films in Kannada cinema among which include Baa Nalle Madhuchandrake, Eradu Kanasu, Hanthakana Sanchu, and Pallavi Anupallavi to name a notable few. Having also made appearances in several Kannada plays, she was also a part of popular television shows like Manthana and Mukta. Bhargavi also released an autobiography titled Naanu, Bhargavi, in 2012, which won the Karnataka State Sahitya Academy Award. She has also worked in the Kannada Natak Academy and wrote and directed plays for All India Radio's (AIR) women's programs and Women's Association for Children, Karnataka. 

The news of Bhargavi Narayan's demise has come as a big shock to many in the Kannada film industry as celebrities have been paying their tributes among whom also included actor Rakshit Shetty, who wrote on Twitter, "That experience working with you at 777 Charlie was unforgettable. You are never in our mind. Om Shanti." Actress Parul Yadav too tweeted her respects and wrote, "It was my privilege to work with Bhargavi Narayan Avare. Such a kind, generous and gracious lady, a trailblazer who remained unaffected by all that she had achieved. I will always remember her fondly."
