'Captain' Vijayakanth made his first public appearance in the presence of his Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party cadre on Thursday morning, December 14, in Chennai. Accompanied by his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth and son Vijay Prabhakar Alagarswami, the Tamil actor-turned-politician was welcomed at the party's 18th general council meeting amidst wild cheers from his supporters. Many thronged from across Tamil Nadu and shared their happiness at witnessing Vijayakanth making a recovery after being admitted to the hospital a few days back to undergo treatment as his health had begun to deteriorate. 

Vijayakanth, who founded the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam, was seen seated on his chair and covered with a face mask, with his wife Premalatha Vijayakanth by his side the whole time and a few party members alongside him. At the DMDK general meeting, it was announced that Premalatha Vijayakanth has been appointed as the new General Secretary of the DMDK after she served as the party Treasurer since October 2018. The DMDK general council also adopted a resolution giving full authority to its president, Vijayakanth, to form an alliance and draw strategies for the upcoming 2024 parliamentary general elections. A total of 18 resolutions were passed at the 18th DMDK general meeting, with the council urging the Tamil Nadu government to give Rs 15,000 as an interim relief to the people affected by cyclone Michaung and Rs 10 lakh to the families of the deceased. The council further appealed for the establishment of the 'Natural Disaster People's Protection Insurance Scheme' to protect the marginalized section of the population. 

Vijayakanth was discharged from the hospital after making a full recovery on December 11. He also expressed his gratitude to everyone for their prayers and wishes during his treatment. MIOT Hospital had issued a statement writing. "Mr. Vijayakanth, who had been undergoing treatment, has recovered completely and returned home."
