Thuppakki is a 2012 action thriller film written and directed by AR Murugadoss. Produced by Kalaippuli S. Thanu under the banner of his studio V Creations, the film stars Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead with Sathyan, Vidyut Jammwal, Jayaram, Manobala and Zakir Hussain in supporting roles. It revolves around an intelligence officer in the Indian Army on a mission to track down, destroy and deactivate a sleeper cell, after witnessing and barely escaping a bomb blast executed by the cell.

It has been ten years since Thalapathy Vijay's Thuppaki hit screens on 13 November 2012. Kalaippuli S. Thanu took to his official Twitter handle in celebration of this. Sharing an image of Vijay as his character Jagadish Dhanapal in the film, he also attached a caption to it that read, "My heartfelt thanks to Thalapathi @actorvijay , director @ARMurugadoss and the entire team, for the earth shattering success of #Thuppakki @Jharrisjayaraj , @santoshsivan @VidyutJammwal #10YearsOfThuppakki ". The film received immensely positive reviews and became a major commercial success, grossing over Rs. 100 crore within just 10 days of its release. The film, was billed as one of the biggest hits in Vijay's career and was his first film to hit the Rs. 100 crore mark at box office. Vidyut Jammwal, who played the antagonist role in the film, made his Tamil film debut with Thuppakki. The film was later remade 2 years later in 2014 by Murugadoss himself in Hindi as Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty.
