Suriya's highly-anticipated Soorarai Pottru had been announced for a direct OTT release on October 30 on Prime Video a while back leaving a huge section of the fans mighty surprised and shocked as they were looking for it to hit theatres once the coronavirus pandemic crisis subsided. That said, the film had courted controversy sometime back after one Karthik from Dharmapuri had filed a case in the Madras High Court claiming that the song 'Mannurunda Mela' might create caste prejudices and that it would lead to an unrest and disruption of harmony in the society.

In the case filed earlier, the petitioner appealed to the judiciary that a ban be imposed against the film until 2022. In regard to the petition filed, the Madras High Court has now ordered the Chennai police to initiate action against the song in Soorarai Pottru. The Honorable judge Ilanthiraiyan has instructed the police to initiate suitable action. A rustic folk number, the 'Mannurunda Mela' song sung by Senthil Ganesh with lyrics penned by K. Ekadesi has been picturized predominantly on Suriya.

Soorarai Pottru has music composed by GV Prakash Kumar, who has delivered four chart-buster songs in the film already which include - 'Maara Theme', 'Veyyon Silli', 'Mannurunda Mela', and 'Kaattu Payale' - all of them receiving a thumping response from fans everywhere. GVP had a while back announced that three more songs from the film will also be released in the days ahead and that the makers would be updating fans soon.

Produced jointly by Suriya's 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment banners, Soorarai Pottru has been directed by Sudha Kongara with cinematography by Niketh Bommi and editing done by Sathish Suriya. The film has Suriya paired opposite Sarvam Thaala Mayam actress Aparna Balamurali, with veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu in a major supporting role. There has been a lot of excitement surrounding Soorarai Pottru as the teaser released a few months back showed Suriya in different dimensions, with the film said to be based on the life of Captain GR Gopinath, the founder of Air Deccan airliner.
