A domestic violence case has been filed by the Mumbai Police on Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai actor Karan Mehra based on a complaint by his wife and actress Nisha Rawal, according to a report by India Today. A case had been filed by Nisha on Friday (June 25) at Mumbai's Goregaon Police Station, with officials currently carrying out an investigation. Nisha has alleged in her complaint that Karan's family members - Ajay Mehra, Bela Mehra and Kunal Mehra - had behaved violently against her, including levelling charges of exploitation against them. No arrests have been made so far, with Nisha also claiming that Karan had withdrawn more than Rs 1 crore from her bank account.

Previously on May 31, Karan Mehra was arrested by the police after Nisha had lodged a complaint against him claiming that he had pushed her against the wall after an argument ensued between them. However, Karan was later released on bail. Later, Nisha spoke about the problems in their marital life, including accusing Karan of having an affair and stated that she didn't delve on the abuse she had faced earlier to safeguard his 'image'.

During an interview, Karan alleged that Nisha had inflicted pain by hurting herself in order to implicate him when he declined to meet her demands. Nisha too in an interview later stated that she requested for money as Karan was the financial head of the family and controlled even her earnings. Addressing media persons, Nisha said, "This is definitely about Karan having an extra marital affair, me trying to work on the marriage, him not even taking responsibility of the child and constant abuse over the years, which I have never spoken about. I have evidence to authenticate my claim." Karan, on the other hand, told the Hindustan Times that he and Nisha had a dispute on May 31 over the handling of the finances, while further alleging that she wanted more than what was agreed upon, which he refused. He claimed that Nisha hit her head against the wall in order to make it look like he had subjected her to it. Karan said, "I have been disrespected and now to use the bechari girl card is unbelievable."
