A 40-year-old television actor in Mumbai has been booked by the Oshiwara police for allegedly raping his 58-year-old stepmother and stealing cash and jewellery from her house, which she shares with his 78-year-old father. An investigation has been launched into a property dispute between the victim and the actor. A resident of Lokhandwala Complex in Andheri (West), the woman is the third wife of her assailant's father, who is a television serial director, the police said in a statement.

In her complaint, the woman has alleged that her stepson entered her house when she was alone and forced himself upon her. She also told the police that he stole money and jewellery from her cupboard, with officials then registering a case of rape and theft. "A case has been registered under sections 376 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code," said an officer from Oshiwara police station. The accused has not yet been arrested as the woman's complaint is still being verified. "We are investigating whether the complaint was because of the property dispute between the victim and her estranged husband and stepson", the police added in their statement.

Sanjay Bandale, senior inspector of Oshiwara police station said that the dispute is about the flat where the woman resides and four shops in the Andheri locality. "Investigations are on and only after verifying the allegations will we be able to arrest the accused," he added.
