Due to the current outbreak of coronavirus, the lives of people all over the world have come to a standstill. Similarly, cinema theatres have also been shut down and it will be one of the last industries to open and get back to business. Theatres, being a place that witnesses huge turnover of crowds, will reopen only after a few months when the panic situation ends. Having said that, it is going to be a huge task for the movie industry to bring back the audience to the theatres. With the boom of OTT platforms in the recent past, people have got used to seeing movies on the streaming platforms.

Talking about this situation, Rakesh Gowthaman of Vettri Theatres (Chromepet), said that films like Master and Soorarai Pottru should only be helping them gain the momentum and restart the industry on a positive note. He also shared that the ideal decision would be to release both the films for this year’s Diwali (in November). He tweeted, “#Master & #SooraraiPottru are our only trump cards now that is going bring the crowd back to theatres !!! The production houses should take a very wise decision on the release which I personally feel is by Diwali 2020 only ...

Both Master and Soorarai Pottru, which were scheduled to hit the screens this April, has now been postponed indefinitely due to Corona. Master, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, features Thalapathy Vijay and Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi in the lead roles and the film holds huge expectations among the fans and general audience. Similarly, Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara, will feature Suriya in a completely different dimension with ample scope for performance.

Both the films are in final stages of post-production and would be completely ready by the time theatres reopen for public. As Rakesh says, let us hope Master and Soorarai Pottru help the cinema industry to revive and progress in the right direction. Check out Rakesh Gowthaman’s tweet below:
