Emmy Rossum, who shot to limelight in Hollywood in the 2003 Clint Eastwood directorial, Mystic River, also posted a picture of what appears to be her newborn's footprint. Both Rossum and Esmail had kept the news of her pregnancy under wraps despite earlier unconfirmed rumors.. The couple were last spotted outside in the public in face masks and face shields last year amid the pandemic.

Sam Esmail proposed to Emmy Rossum in 2015 after they had been dating for two years. They also worked together in the 2014 rom-com, Comet, which had Esmail serving as the director, while Rossum starred and executive produced the film. The couple tied the knot in May 2017 at Central Synagogue in New York City in an intimate ceremony, which was followed by a grand reception at the Guggenheim Museum. Among the notable stars from Hollywood who had graced that evening included Robert Downey Jr. and Hilary Swank, while Rossum's Shameless co-stars Macy and Shanola Hampton too attended the gala reception, followed by Mr. Robot stars Rami Melk, Christian Slater, and Carly Chaikin.
