Mohanlal's Drishyam 2 shooting begins - pictures go viral!
A landmark film in the history of Malayalam cinema, the 2013 thriller Drishyam, starring Mohanlal and Meena in the lead roles, turned out to be a stupendous commercial blockbuster at the box office. Featuring Meena as the female lead, the film directed by Jeethu Joseph under Antony Perumbavoor's Aashirvad Cinemas banner went on to be a critical favorite, with subsequent remakes being made in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Sinhala and even in Chinese. A sequel titled Drishyam 2 was announced sometime back and thus reuniting Mohanlal with Meena and Jeethu Joseph along with producer Antony Perumbavoor once again forming the core team.
Now, with the team recently undergoing COVID-19 tests prior to heading for production, a formal pooja for Drishyam 2 was held on Monday, which saw director Jeethu Joseph and producer Antony Perumbavoor along with other important members of the crew participating. Pictures of the puja were shared by Mohanlal on his social media pages including other members associated with the film as well, who posted them on their respective handles.
Drishyam in 2013 earned the distinction of being the first film in Malayalam cinema history to collect 50 crores at the box office. Apart from Mohanlal and Meena, the original also included Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sarath, Siddique, Kalabhavan Shajon, Neeraj Madhav, Irshad, Roshan Basheer, Kunchan among others in major supporting roles. The upcoming sequel will begin from the shot where the first part ended, with the film set to be picturized entirely in Kerala in a span of two months.
A landmark film for Mohanlal and Malayalam cinema, Drishyam has been celebrated across the country including its remakes namely Drishya in Kannada starring V Ravichandran and Navya Nair turning out to be a success, followed by Drushyam in Telugu with Venkatesh and Meena too emerging triumphant at the box office. However, the Tamil version, Papanasam, starring Kamal Haasan and Gautami, recorded massive box office returns including drawing family audiences back to theatres in groups, who were left in awe with every aspect of the film. The Hindi version, Drishyam, starring Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran, was lapped up by fans, with similar highly positive responses for the Sinhala version titled, Dharmayuddhaya, and Sheep Without a Shepherd in Chinese.
All eyes will be locked on how the makers take forward the story of Mohanlal as Georgekutty and Meena as Rani George along with their family members in Drishyam 2, which generated massive expectations right from the moment it was announced. Supporting actors who were seen in the original film are once again likely expected to be seen returning to reprising their roles in the forthcoming sequel, which will most probably hit screens before Summer 2021.
