Earlier this morning (March 14), director S.P.Jhananathan passed away and the news came as a shocker for the people of Tamil Nadu. Jhananathan is considered to be one of the important filmmakers who made socially relevant and sensible films and educated the audience through his story. Each of his films had strong content and it left a deep impact on the audience. Jhananathan's filmography includes critically acclaimed movies like Iyarkai, E, Peraanmai, and Purampokku Engira Podhuvudamai. Jhananathan was also known for his communist ideologies and strong political thoughts. His films have also been a reflection of his strong ideologies.

His next film, Laabam is due for release. It was only during the post-production works of Laabam, director SP Jhananathan fell unconscious and was rushed to the hospital on March 11. He was admitted to the ICU ward in the hospital and it was informed that his health condition is highly critical. Jhananathan suffered a cardiac arrest this morning after which the doctors confirmed that he is no more. His mortal remains was brought to his house in Kutchery Road, Mylapore this afternoon for people to pay their final respects. Several notable actors, directors, and technicians from the Tamil film industry paid homage to the director.

Directors Karu Pazhaniappan, Ameer, Mohan Raja, Cheran, actor Mansoor Ali Khan, actor Kaali Venkat, actor Ponvannan, editor Mohan, music director D Imman, and several others were seen at the funeral event. The entire place looked highly emotional and the visuals from the funeral event will move you. Jhananathan's yet to be released Laabam is now going to appeal quite differently to the audience during the time of its release. The makers had planned to release the film in theatres in April, but now the plans might change, considering these unfortunate incidents. Let us hope that the remaining minor post-production works are completed soon so that the film will release.

Laabam stars Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi and Shruti Haasan in the lead roles and has music scored by D Imman. Produced by Vijay Sethupathi Productions in association with Arumugakumar's 7Cs Entertainment, Laabam features Jagapathi Babu, Kalaiyarasan, Ramesh Thilak, Sai Dhanshika, and others in supporting roles.
