A few days before, Suriya made a breaking announcement stating that his next film, Soorarai Pottru will have a direct release on Amazon Prime Video OTT platform. We have been witnessing a lot of films skipping the theatrical release due to the pandemic, but Soorarai Pottru was never expected by anyone and it was considered to be one of the major trump cards to bring back the audience to the theatres after the pandemic. However, Suriya informed his fans that he has taken this decision as a producer and not as an actor. He also assured that his next set of films will be released only in the theatres. Soorarai Pottru, directed by Sudha Kongara, is scheduled to release on Prime Video on October 30.

Having said that, director Hari has now issued an official statement, expressing his disappointment over Soorarai Pottru releasing in OTT platform. He also requested Suriya to reconsider his decision. Hari’s statement read, “Respected Suriya, having worked with you in a lot of films together, I would like to putforth a few points. As a fan, my happiness and interest is to see your film only in the theatres and not on OTT platform. Let us not forget that we earned all the love, applause and celebration from the audience only in the theatre. Cinema is God to us. God can be anywhere and everywhere, but it will look complete only when it is there in a place called a temple. Likewise, it will look good only when cinema plays in theatre and that will only give due recognition for those who worked in a film. I understand and realise the pain of a producer during these testing times, but still, I would like to request you to reconsider your decision about Soorarai Pottru release.”

Hari and Suriya will be teaming up together for the actor’s next outing, Aruvaa which is to be produced by KE Gnanavel Raja’s Studio Green. Aruvaa is touted to be a family action entertainer that will take back Suriya to the rural routes after a long time. A few weeks back, there were reports that Aruvaa might be dropped, adding that Hari will be doing a film with Arun Vijay, instead. However, an official word regarding that is awaited.
