In a shocking incident, a 21-year-old youth named Tasleem, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, murdered his employer in Delhi over a salary pay-cut during the coronavirus pandemic crisis and has since been arrested by the police. Tasleem had been working as a domestic help for a salary of Rs 15,000 for 45-year-old dairy farmer Om Prakash. However, in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak disrupting business, Tasleem was asked to take a reduced pay after which an argument had broken out between the two, during which he claimed Om Prakash slapped him, police stated upon their investigation.

During the interrogation, Tasleem told the police that he hit Om Prakash on his head with a stick after he went to sleep and slit his throat. He then packed his body inside a sack and threw it into a nearby well. He then proceeded to allegedly inform Om Prakash's relatives the next day that he had gone away on business. Hours later, Tasleem fled the spot fearing a police arrest.

On August 12, the police were called in after Om Prakash's nephew filed a missing person's report. He stated in his complaint that he had not seen his uncle since the night of August 10, while adding that Om Prakash was with his domestic help Tasleem at that time. With not may leads to pursue, the police were informed by Om Prakash's neighbors that there was a strong odour coming from a well - the same well in which Tasleem dumped the deceased person's body. The police then recovered the body and a case was subsequently registered.

The police then swung into action and found out that Tasleem had taken Om Prakash's motorbike and mobile phone with him during his escape. They then raided several places in Shamli district, including Tasleem's home in UP, and other areas in Haryana. On Sunday, the police received information that Tasleem had been seen in west Delhi's Jharoda Kalan area and a trap was set for him. The police arrested Tasleem and recovered Om Prakash's mobile phones including a few documents, with the knife he had allegedly used to kill his former employer, senior Delhi Police officer Anto Alphonse said in a statement.
