Anthologies seem to be the latest trend in the Tamil digital space. We had recently seen Vels Film International announcing their anthology film titled Kutty Love Story featuring 4 short stories made by 4 directors - Gautham Vasudev Menon, Venkat Prabhu, Vijay and Nalan Kumarasamy. Following that, it has now been officially announced that Amazon Prime Video has assembled and made an anthology film that will have 5 different stories directed by 5 different filmmakers. The 5 directors include Gautham Vasudev Menon, Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Rajiv Menon, Sudha Kongara and Karthik Subbaraj. Interesting, right?

All the five filmmakers are renowned for their works and it is definitely exciting to see them come together to make something fresh. This anthology movie has been titled Putham Pudhu Kaalai. More excitingly, it has been announced that the film will release on October 16 on Prime Video platform. This news has excited the fans as we are just two weeks away from witnessing the film. It is said that this anthology film was shot and completed during the Covid times with all precautionary measures in place. Amazon Prime has been finding it quite challenging to deliver quality regional content so far and let us hope that Putham Pudhu Kaalai makes the situation better.

A stellar star cast is said to have been a part of this anthology film, but we will have to wait for a few more days to know the full cast and crew details. The film’s trailer is also expected to release in the next few days. From what we see with the short glimpse video, it looks like this anthology will be a breezy feel good drama that will talk about life, love, romance, hope, emotions, and more.

Notably, Putham Pudhu Kaalai marks Suhasini Mani Ratnam’s directorial comeback after a gap of 25 years. She had last directed Indira (starring Anu Haasan and Arvind Swami) which released in 1995. Rajiv Menon’s last outing was Sarvam Thaala Mayam which received fairly positive reviews for its making and neat performances. Karthik Subbaraj and Sudha Kongara have been waiting for the releases of their respective big films, Jagame Thandhiram and Soorarai Pottru. Gautham Menon, on the other hand, has various exciting projects in his pipeline including Dhruva Natchathiram, Joshua: Imai Pol Kaakha, Kutty Love Story (1 portion), Netflix anthology film (1 portion), and more. Get ready to witness Putham Pudhu Kaalai from October 16. Check out Amazon Prime’s announcement tweet below:
