Indian literacy rates - Kerala highest & Andhra Pradesh lowest!

India is known to be the birth place of a number of arts, languages and a lot of culture & heritage. There are also various conceptions about which state in India is considered to be the most developed. However, a latest survey by the National Statistical Office (NSO), has revealed the rankings each of India's states have gotten in the list of literary percentages! The national average for literacy across India stands at 77.7% and the state with the highest literacy rate in all of India is God's Own Country - Kerala! This state takes first position with a literary percentage of 96.2%, which is almost 8% more than the second on this list - Delhi, which stands at 88.7%! These literacy rates have been calculated for all people aged 7 or more!
This statistical survey also went on to calculate the gap between male and female literacy in the states and again, the state with the least gap percentage in this statistic too, is Kerala with just a gap of 2.2% between the literace rate of males as well as females, while the overall gap across the country (all-India level gap) is at 14.4%! However, this gap between the genders is shown in stark contrast in some states like Uttar Pradesh, Jharkand, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, Chattisgarh but is the highest at Rajasthan. The difference in the gender literacy is at 23.2% with the male literacy percentage being at 80.8% while the female literacy percentage is at 57.6%!
This survey released by NSO lists Kerala at the top, followed by Delhi and then Uttarakhand, while Himachal Pradesh and Assam round off the top 5 states. Tamil Nadu ranks 8th on this list with the overall literacy being at 82.9% and is followed by Gujarat at 82.4%. Andhra Pradesh, which is said to produce one of the highest number of engineers from India, who are in heavy demand abroad, comes in last on this list with a literacy percentage of just 66.4%, which is far less than the national average of 77.7%!
