For quite some time now, the one big question on everybody's mind was, when we would be able to get a vaccine for this COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus. Now that quite a few probable vaccine candidates are in the most advanced level of testing, the next question that has to be addressed is how and when would everybody be able to get the vaccine, once production of the vaccines begin. As an answer to all this, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that one of his recently announced schemes - unique digital health ID for all Indian citizens, would be used to ensure all citizens are immunised! The PM had announced this unique digital health ID under the National Digital Health Mission, just two months back!

Recently, while addressing the gathering at the inaugural function of the Grand Challenges Annual Meeting 2020, Modi said that India is at the forefront of developing vaccines for COVID-19 and that some of the candidates are in very advanced stages. He added that we would not be stopping there and also mentioned that India is already working on establishing a vaccine delivery system, even before the production begins. Mr. Modi reiterated that the digitised network along with the digital health ID would be used to ensure immunisation of all our citizens! Earlier, while announcing the digital health ID in his Independence Day address, the PM mentioned that this process will ensure that all medical details including past illnesses, diseases, diagnoses, reports, history of medication and all other relevant medical data of each individual would be available on a common database.

Reports state that a high-level expert group on vaccine administration has been specifically trying to identify methods of tracking recipients to administer the COVID vaccine, as and when it is ready for distribution. The reason behind this is that, the vaccine might need to be administered in two or three doses and populationg groups must be followed accordingly. During his address, Narendra Modi also stressed that even beyond COVID, India has been at the forefront of developing and manufacturing vaccines for many other diseases. He also stressed that despite the vast geography and immense population, India has managed to keep the corona virus spread under control. Modi also expressed that India was one of the first countries to emphasise the usage of masks as well as intensively follow contact tracing. Stay tuned for further updates...
