Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Monday that there were no new coronavirus positive cases reported in the state while adding that 34 people were undergoing treatment at present and also shared an additional optimistic news by saying that 61 patients were discharged today. This is the third day in this month already after May 1 that not a single positive case has been reported after two people were confirmed to have contracted the infection on May 2. He went on to say that 499 people have so far been infected by the COVID-19 virus, which has claimed three lives, including that of a four-month baby girl from Malappuram last week. Around 21,724 people are said to be under observation among whom include 372 in different hospitals across the state with over 33,000 odd samples tested to date, of which 32,315 have been found to be negative.
Pinarayi Vijayan further stated that more than 80 Keralites in various nations have lost their lives in the battle against the COVID-19 virus while adding that Malayalees in other states across the country too have been affected by the disease, which he said was "painful". The Kerala CM said that over one lakh Keralites stranded in other states have registered on the NORKA (Non-resident Keralites Affairs) portal to return to the state. He also said that around 28,000 people have so far applied for passes with 5,470 passed distributed as of 4PM. He concluded saying about 515 people have returned to the state via various checkpoints as of Monday noon. As many as 13,818 migrant workers had left for their respective states through the special trains in the course of the last two across the stations in Kerala.
