How much tax is one person supposed to pay? Doesn't this seem unfair? These are questions posed by fans, who have come forward in defense of actor Vijay after he was fined Rs. 1 lakh by Justice S.M. Subramaniam of the Madras High Court on Tuesday, while also being ordered to pay the sum towards the Tamil Nadu COVID-19 relief fund. The issue was regarding a nine-year-old petition he had filed seeking exemption for his luxury Rolls Royce Ghost car's entry tax, which he had purchased back in 2012. 'Thalapathy', as he is lovingly called by his fans everywhere, the news of the actor allegedly evading from paying the tax didn't go down well among many, while also being trolled on social media, when in reality all that he had requested was for an exemption.

Soon after the controversy surrounding the tax issue of 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Rolls Royce car blew up online, fans of the superstar shared the receipts showing he had paid his full lifetime tax, with all the necessary documents updated as well. They have also pointed out in their reference Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar seeking the same for his Ferrari car, which was granted. The judge had come down on Vijay stating, "In the State of Tamil Nadu, cine heroes have risen as rulers of the State and therefore, the people are under the impression that they are real heroes. Thus, they are not expected to behave like reel heroes. Tax evasion is to be construed as an anti-national habit, attitude and mindset and unconstitutional." He further added, "These actors portray themselves as champions of social justice. Their movies are against corrupt activities in the society. But, they are evading tax and acting in a manner which is not in consonance with the provisions of the Statutes."
