Director A. L. Vijay has established himself to be a big talent with his films for over a decade after he kicked off his filmmaking career with the 'Thala' Ajith starrer, Kireedam, in 2007. He hit the bullseye with the romantic period drama Madrasapattinam in 2010, which had Arya and also introduced British actress Amy Jackson to Tamil audiences. Vijay next directed 'Chiyaan' Vikram back-to-back in Deiva Thirumagal and Thaandavam before teaming up with 'Thalapathy' Vijay in 2013 for the mass action film, Thalaivaa. A. L. Vijay, whose last two ventures - Prabhu Deva's Devi 2 and the Avanum Naanum segment in the romantic anthology, Kutty Story, received a favorable response from fans and critics alike, is currently awaiting the release of the upcoming biggie, Thalaivi, a biopic based on the life of the Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J. Jayalalithaa.

As the release plans for Thalaivi have been put on hold in view of the staggering number of fresh coronavirus cases across India, A. L. Vijay, who got married to Aishwarya in 2019, was blessed with a baby boy on May 30, 2020 in Chennai. There was no photograph of Vijay and Aishwarya's baby boy until recently, with a picture of the hit director with his newborn taking social media by storm a couple of months back. Having said that, a new family photo of A. L. Vijay with his wife Aishwarya and their toddler son has now dropped online, which as well is receiving a phenomenal response from fans, who are wishing the filmmaker. A. L. Vijay will be looking for his Thalaivi to turn out to be yet another success considering the film has been made on a mammoth scale and had been announced to be releasing as a pan-Indian venture in several languages, with National Award-winning actress Kangana Ranaut portraying the late stateswoman J. Jayalalithaa, who is joined by Arvind Swami cast as 'Puratchi Thalaivar' M. G. Ramachandran (MGR) and featuring music by G. V. Prakash Kumar. Apart from the lead stars, Thalaivi jointly produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh under the Vibri Media banner also includes a highly-talented supporting cast featuring names like Nassar, Bhagyashree, Samuthirakani, Madhu Bala, Thambi Ramaiah, Poorna, with Baahubali screenwriter K. V. Vijayendra Prasad taking charge on the screenplay front.
