Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor directed by Nelson Dilipkumar has been a film that fans have been waiting to watch for quite sometime after its theatrical release plans were pushed twice before. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar of Kolamaavu Kokila and the in progress 'Thalapathy' Vijay-starrer Beast, the upcoming film touted to be a black comedy was initially announced for a release on March 26, 2021 and was subsequently postponed due to the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly election taking place in April. Doctor was then scheduled for an Eid release in May this year, but was indefinitely pushed after the rise in COVID-19 cases and lockdown in Tamil Nadu.

Jointly produced by Sivakarthikeyan Productions and Kotapadi J Rajesh’s KJR Studios banners, Doctor was earlier this month revealed to be coming out in theatres and not on any OTT platform as was being speculated sometime back. In that light, the makers took to social media on Saturday to drop the announcement fans have been waiting for months now and informed officially that Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor will hit screens on October 9, 2021 before Ayudha Pooja. Expectations for Doctor have been massive considering the film will include plenty of action, with fans waiting to witness Sivakarthikeyan take on a role in the genre for quite sometime.
