Actress Samantha was recently seen in the Telugu film, Jaanu, in which she portrayed the role played by Trisha in the Tamil original, 96, which became a smash box office and critical success in 2018. Post the release of Jaanu, Samantha was announced to be a part of the upcoming Tamil film, Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal, alongside Vijay Sethupathi and Nayanthara under Vignesh Shivan's direction.

With Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal set to roll into production soon presumably in either March or April, there have been reports across certain sections of the media stating Samantha had been replaced by Aditi Rao Hydari for Sharwanand's upcoming Telugu film, Mahasamudram, owing to Jaanu's lacklustre performance at the box office.

Quoting the report, Aditi Rao Hydari took to her Twitter page to express her complete support for Samantha by tweeting out saying, "I genuinely feel this is important to say... a hit or flop cannot take away the credibility of an actor. Pl Let’s not encourage this kind of thinking.secondly lets give a director/producer the respect to make their announcements in the way that they deem fit. Thank you".
