Director Radha Mohan is known for his sensible and realistic portrayal of women and all his films have been clean family entertainers. He has a penchant for humour in his films, and his films have been rib ticklers even though they carry strong messages and handling serious themes. Radha Mohan began work on his first film was Smile Please in 1996 didn’t release due to financial restraints. The film was later set for release during Diwali 1998 under the title of Ananthakrishnan, but still failed to clear financial hurdles. It took 8 years for Radha Mohan to find a producer to direct his first film which would hit the screens. And it happened with Azhagiya Theeye. But not many know he had worked as an assistant director in Vijay and Ajith starrer Rajavin Parvaiyile. During an exclusive interaction with Galatta, Radha Mohan opens up about his friendship with Vijay and Ajith:

“Not many know that Vijay and Ajith acted in a film together, Rajavin Parvaiyile. I think that was Vijay’s 4th film. He worked on this after finishing Rasigan and a couple of other projects. Rajavin Parvaiyile was directed by a friend of mine. I worked as an associated director in that film, there is a cameo role in that film which was enacted by Ajith. I became a good friends to both Ajith and Vijay while starting my career. I shared good bond with both of them, even after that the completion of that film, we meet and talk. Then things changed, we lost touch as both their roads diverged and now, they soon became Superstars in their own merit in no time. I was still a struggling assistant director who directed a film which unfortunately couldn’t make it to the screens.

Then when my friend Jagan directed Puthiya Geethai with Vijay, he asked me to assist him a few things like translating the Tamil dialogue in English for actress Ameesha Patel. That’s when I met Vijay after a long time on the sets and he was happy to see me. Casually, he asked me if I have a story that he could act in. I told him I don’t have a fancy script that would suit your image but I introduced him to my friend Ramana who had a story ready which is Tirumalai. Vijay asked him to narrate the story to him, he went and over the table everything got finalised and he came out as a director.”
