Tamil Nadu police on Thursday issued a statement saying that the rumor of a policewoman posted at Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami's house contracting the coronavirus is not true. The police have further stated that no policewoman posted at the CM's house has contracted the COVID-19 virus after medical testing. It has also been decided to carry out testing on all the staff of the police department in Chennai city.
The statement from the Tamil Nadu police comes at the wake of a rumor that was floating around on social networking forums on Thursday morning leaving many concerned. So far, the state's coronavirus positive case count stands at 4,829 with 771 new cases reported on Wednesday, which is the highest for a single day to date. In addition, 35 people have succumbed to the fatal disease so far with Chennai city accounting for the most number of positive cases in the state as 2,328 cases have been registered, of which 1,975 are active.
