Parasite, the South Korean thriller drama, bagged 4 awards at the recently concluded 92nd Annual Academy Awards, thereby garnering huge attention on social media. This Bong Joon Ho directorial bagged the Oscars under the categories of ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Director’, ‘Best Original Screenplay’ and ‘Best International Feature Film’. The film has got a good reception from the worldwide audience as well. Interestingly, the Tamil cinema audience found a similarity with Parasite’s one-line which matches the basic idea of Thalapathy Vijay’s yesteryear hit, Minsara Kanna, which was released in 1999.

We do not want to divulge about the premise and spoil the experience for those who haven’t watched Parasite. People who have seen both the films will know what we are talking about. Having said that, there were funny memes and social media posts shared by fans citing the similarities between Parasite and Minsara Kanna. Recently, Minsara Kanna’s director K.S.Ravikumar told that the producer of the film should only take a decision on this issue and added that he felt happy that he made an Oscar-winning film’s story 20 years back.

Following that, producer P.L.Thenappan, who bankrolled the Vijay starrer, has exclusively shared a few details with Galatta. While asked about his plan of action, he said, “I have been hearing about Parasite’s one-line matching with Minsara Kanna. I am discussing with my lawyers and legal team on how to go about this issue. We will make a decision by Monday (February 17). I have faced a similar situation already with Kadhala Kadhala.

I had filed a case against the makers of Housefull (Hindi film) for lifting the idea and scenes from Kadhala Kadhala and I am yet to get justice for that. The case is still happening, even after these many years. So, this is not something new for me and we will come up with a decision (regarding Parasite) soon.
