The 92nd Academy Awards ceremony took today (February 9) at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, after nominations in 24 categories including Best Actor were announced on January 13. Being presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), Oscars 2020 is an event that honors artistes and technicians for their work in films that released theatrically last year.

There were five nominees nominated for the Best Actor Award at the 92nd Academy Awards among whom were Antonio Banderas for Pain and Glory, Leonardo DiCaprio for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Adam Driver for Marriage Story, Joaquin Phoenix for Joker and Jonathan Pryce for The Two Popes as. Among the nominees revealed, it has now been announced that Joaquin Phoenix has won the Oscar Award for Best Actor for his performance in the film, Joker.

Joker is a comic-book origin story directed by Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix playing the role of Arthur Fleck, who goes on to become the iconic DC Comics super-villain, Joker. Joaquin Phoenix is taking home his first Oscar Award for his thunderous and power-packed performance in Joker after being nominated thrice earlier in films namely Gladiator (2001), Walk the Line (2006) and The Master (2013).
