The Shekar Kapur directorial Mr. India, which had Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri in the lead, became one of the biggest hits ever, in Bollywood! This cult classic, which was bankrolled by Boney Kapoor, spawned some legendary dialogues like "Mogambo Kush Hua" and the chartbuster 'Hawa Hawaa' song. Even now, over 30 years after this movie was released, there are many references of Mr. India, in various movies! Now, we have some exciting news for fans of this classic hit!

Director Ali Abbas Zafar has put out a tweet that he is coming together with the Zee Studios banner for writing and directing a trilogy based on Mr. India. We hear that Ali Abbas Zafar is getting the script ready for a whole superhero universe based on Mr. India, which would be set in contemporary times. Talking about this project, he says, "“It is a huge responsibility to carry forward an iconic character that has been loved by Indians for so many years. I have just commenced working on the script, no actor has been locked till now, once the first draft of the script is ready, we will begin the casting process. The film involves massive amounts of pre-production and will go on floor early next year!"

Ali Abbas has directed five movies till now and he has worked with Salman Khan in three of them. His most recent directorial was the 2019 Salman starrer Bharat. He has also turned producer for the upcoming movie Khaali Peeli, which has Ishaan Khatter and Ananya Pandey in the lead. It would definitely be interesting to see whom the director zeroes in on, to play the leads in his trilogy as almost all the characters from Mr. India have become iconic characters by themselves!
