It is that time of the day when the official number of the COVID-19 cases are released and May 15th has created a milestone of sorts, albeit an unfortunate one. After a couple of days with low numbers, there is a feeble hope of the infection plateauing but let us wait and watch! The numbers are still very high, especially in Chennai. The official numbers of #COVID-19 Novel Corona Virus cases in Tamil Nadu are out and we have it for you. The numbers for the last 24 hours show that Tamil Nadu has had 434 new cases of COVID positive being reported, taking the overall total to 10,108! Of these, 309 new cases have been identified in Chennai alone, taking the district's total to 5,947, with Tiruvallur having 21 cases, Chengalpattu registering 20 new cases, Kancheepuram adding 11 cases and Madurai & Theni each recording 6!
There have been 5 new COVID related deaths in Tamil Nadu in the past 24 hours, taking the total to 71. As of now, Chennai is the biggest hotspot in the state and has 5,946 cases registered, of which 5,114 are active. The total number of active cases in entire Tamil Nadu, stands at 7,435! The number of recoveries has seen a record high today, with 359 new recoveries and discharges and the total number of recovered people is now at 2,599. There have been 11,672 samples tested, in the past 24 hours alone, taking the total tests to 303,104! Tamil Nadu has now become the the state with the second highest COVID-19 infections, following Maharashtra! In another unpleasant milestone, India has surpassed China to become No. 11 on the list of most affected countries in the world!
