Ace Malayalam music director Isaac Thomas Kottukapally, passed away on February 18 and the news has come as a shocker for Malayalam cinema fans. He passed away in Chennai. According to reports, Isaac Thomas is said to have died due to cardiac arrest. Reportedly, he was also suffering from other health issues due to the age factor. He was 72 years old when he breathed his last. Leading personalities and fans across the South Indian film industry have shared their condolence messages on social media. AK Balan, Kerala's Minister for Culture, took to his official Facebook page to mourn the demise of music director Isaac Thomas Kottukapally. His social media post read (loosely translated in English), "He had won national and state awards for best music and background score. He is notable for working in different arenas of the film industry. The loss is that of an esteemed artist". Isaac is the son of former Member of Parliament, George Thomas Kottukapally.
Isaac Thomas Kottukapally made his debut as a music director with the Kannada film, Thaayi Saheba (directed by Girish Kasaravalli), which won National Film Award in four categories - Best Film, Special Jury Award, Best Costume Design, Best Art Direction. Isaac's notable films in Malayalam include Bhavam, Margam, Sancharram, Oridam, Kathavasheshan, Boomi Malayalam, Adaminte Makan Abu, Veettilekkulla Vazhi, Kutty Srank, Parudeesa, Kunjananthante Kada. Isaac Thomas Kottukapally won the National Award for Best Music Direction (Background Score) for the Malayalam film, Adaminte Makan Abu, directed by Salim Ahamed.
Isaac has also won the Kerala State Film Award four times for his outstanding work in movies like Bhavam (2002), Margam (2003), Sancharram & Oridam (2004), and Adaminte Makan Abu & Veettilekkulla Vazhi (2010). For the Tamil audience, Isaac Thomas has worked as the music director in Sathyaraj's Kurukshetram, Adithya's Thoovanam, Navya Nair - Cheran starrer Aadum Koothu, and more. His last film in Tamil was the Vijay Sethupathi starrer Varnam, directed by Raju SM.
