Former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh has been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) after complaining about chest pain. Manmohan Singh who is 87 years old is kept under observation at the cardio-thoracic ward of AIIMS. “He is under observation after he complained of chest pain. He’s admitted at the cardio-thoriac ward and is doing fine,” A statement reported by his party men. He was admitted under Dr Nitish Naik, a professor of cardiology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), around 8.45 pm. It must be noted that the former PM had undergone a successful bypass surgery in January 2009 at AIIMS.

Manmohan Singh is an economist, academic, and politician who served as the 13th Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014. He was the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term. In 1991, as India faced a severe economic crisis, newly elected Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao surprisingly inducted the apolitical Singh into his cabinet as Finance Minister. Over the next few years, despite strong opposition, he as a Finance Minister carried out several structural reforms that liberalised India's economy. India is undergoing a similar crisis now due to the outbreak of coronavirus, an economist brain like Manmohan’s could come in very handy for our nation. We wish Manmohan Singh a speedy recovery.
