Actor Dhanush began his 2020 by joining Pariyerum Perumal director Mari Selvaraj for their Karnan, being produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu's V Creations banner. Launched in the first week of January, the upcoming film being currently being shot in and around locations in Tirunelveli, is billed to be an intense rural drama and is Dhanush's 41st film. Featuring a multi-star cast, the film includes National Award-winning actor turned director Lal, known among Tamil audience as the villain in Vishal's Sandakozhi.

Lal, wo plays the character named Yemen in Karnan, has now revealed on his Twitter page that the film's complete shooting will be wrapped up by March while also lauding director Mari Selvaraj for making him push the boundaries to deliver the best output alongside Dhanush. Karnan will incidentally be the second consecutive outing for Mari Selvaraj with composer Santhosh Narayanan after their 2018 blockbuster, Pariyerum Perumal. Apart from Dhanush and Lal, the film's cast also includes names like popular Malayalam actress Rajisha Vijayan making her Tamil cinema debut as the lead heroine alongside comedian Yogi Babu, Namma Veettu Pillai villain Natarajan Subramanian aka. Natty, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli and 96 fame Gouri G. Kishan in major supporting roles.
