Tamil Nadu government on Friday issued an announcement saying auto rickshaws and cycle rickshaws in non-containment zones across the state can ply, exempting the Greater Chennai Police limits, from May 23. Only one passenger should travel in the rickshaws and will be allowed to ply between 7AM and 7PM.
A statement issued to the press said that autos and cycles rickshaws are not allowed to run in containment zones. Furthermore, drivers in the containment zones are not allowed to carry out their work. Drivers in non-containment zones have been instructed to possess sanitizers for the passengers traveling in their vehicles. Masks need to be worn by both the driver and the passengers and the vehicle must be disinfected thrice a day. Drivers have also been told to wash their hands using soap on a frequent basis as well as maintaining hygiene of their vehicles.
The press release also added saying various relaxations by the government were being announced in light of the ongoing lockdown imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic keeping in mind the efforts to curb the spread of the infectious disease. Relaxations across the state have been allowed by the government, which includes shops permitted to reopen and manufacturing and construction activities resuming with notable restrictions to avoid any possible spread of the COVID-19 virus.
