Maria Juliana became an instant sensation across Tamil Nadu after raising her voice during the Jallikattu protests in early 2017 in which she was one of the several popular faces to do her part for the social movement that brought entire Tamil Nadu to a literal standstill, while also making the entire world take notice of the tense situation in the state. Post the Jallikattu protests, Julie surprised everyone as she was announced to be participating as a contestant on the smash hit reality show, Bigg Boss Tamil season 1. Since Bigg Boss season 1, Julie went on to be featured in several endorsements, including landing film offers, while also making special appearances in Vemal's Mannar Vagaiyara and Hiphop Tamizha's Naan Sirithal.

Among the few upcoming projects Bigg Boss Julie has lined up next are the devotional thriller, Amman Thayee, with its promos and trailer released sometime back going on to receive a huge response. She also signed up for a film titled Polladha Ulagil Bayangara Game (PUBG) alongside Bigg Boss Tamil season 2's Aishwarya Dutta, including another venture titled Utthami and an untitled project. Having said that, Julie has been of late keeping herself preoccupied with photoshoots, with her pictures on her social media pages fetching her a staggering response from fans. Likewise, in a new photoshoot, Julie posted a picture of herself covered in beach sand, with rose petals strewn around her. The Bigg Boss Tamil season 1 star in the caption for the picture has revealed that it is a still for an upcoming film, while adding that there is a surprise in the waiting for fans. Prior to making headlines in the Jallikattu movement and her subsequent stint on Bigg Boss, Julie was working as a nurse and had earlier this year revealed during the lockdown period that she wasn't going back to her previous job as it was a holy profession that required full dedication and hard work. It is to be noted that Julie has voiced her views on several social issues and most notably in recent times was when she posted an awareness video to speak about the horrendous rape of a Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district. In the video, she provided numerous statistics on sexual harassment and sexual assault cases around the country, including raising several key points on the ignorance of the people towards such violence. The video went viral as it showed Julie wearing a hospital gown with severe bruises on her face, including injuries on the top of her head, her eyes and below her nose. She clarified in the video that she was only wearing makeup and had done so in order to deliver the message of the condition of rape victims.
