Aval Appadithan is a yesteryear classic that starred Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth and Sripriya in the lead roles. Directed by C Rudhraiya, the film has a cult following for the strong performances from the lead actors and the theme that dealt with women’s liberation, sex, and male chauvinism. Meanwhile, it looks like the film might be remade again with a new set of actors. Yes, director Badri Venkatesh who has made films like Baana Kaathadi and Semma Botha Aagathey has taken moves to mount this project.
STR, Dulquer Salmaan and Shruti Haasan are said to be in consideration to play the lead roles in this remake. In an exclusive conversation with Galatta Media, Badri said, “Nothing has been finalized as of now and the project is in very early stages. Shruti Haasan is almost confirmed and she will play the female lead. We have approached Dulquer Salmaan to play Kamal Haasan’s role and I am keen on getting him onboard. Similarly, we have approached STR for Rajinikanth’s character.
We are also considering Vijay Deverakonda as another option to play Rajini’s role. It is a very challenging project, so we need to carefully plan and execute the film. I’m currently looking to acquire the remake rights from the producers of the original film and works for that is currently on progress.” It looks like we will have to wait for a few more months for this project to materialize. Meanwhile, Badri Venkatesh has completed his third directorial project - Plan Panni Pannanum, a comedy entertainer that stars Rio Raj and Ramya Nambeesan in the lead roles.
