The Telugu edition of actress Priyamani's proposed tri-lingual titled Charulatha to be made simultaneously in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada will be produced by leading Telugu producer Allu Aravind of Geetha Arts. While Dwarakish produces the Kannada version, Ramesh Krishnamoorthy produces the Tamil version.
The film is inspired by the 2007 Thai film Alone, starring Thai-German pop singer Marsha Wattanapanich in the lead. The makers have made some changes to the original script to suit the taste of South Indian audience.
Directed by Ponkumaran, who worked as an assistant director in films like Dasavathaaram, Aadhavan and Sokkathangam, the film stars Malayalam blockbuster Notebook fame Skanda plays the male lead. The film also stars Seetha, Saranya Ponvannan, Saisasi in prominent roles.
