The coronavirus pandemic crisis has set the entire world on the backfoot with daily normal life taking a major hit including economies around the globe spiralling downwards. In that light, Tamil Nadu is currently the third-worst affected State in India, with the State Health Department on Wednesday issuing a new media bulletin in regard to combating the COVID-19 outbreak. The latest data shows 5,990 fresh coronavirus positive cases recorded on September 2, taking the total in the state to 4,39,959 cases. Among them, the total number of active coronavirus cases across TN, including those in isolation as on today is 52,380.

Chennai city recorded 1,025 new coronavirus positive cases today taking the district's total to 1,37,732 cases. The district has constantly been witnessing the case mark to remain in numbers between 1,000-1,300 cases. However, the city has been making gradual yet considerably better progress compared to earlier predictions that the restrictions in lockdown would lead to a bigger spike. Chennai continues to be the worst-affected district in the state with 12,537 active cases, while Coimbatore has breached the 4000+ mark, with Salem recording 3,724 active cases. 

98 people died on Wednesday across Tamil Nadu due to COVID-19 taking the state's death toll up to 7,516 casualties. The state has been reporting anywhere between 80-100 deaths on a daily basis over the past few days, with those numbers occasionally crossing the 100+ mark. On the contrary, the recovery count has been progressing steadily upwards with 5,891 patients getting discharged over the past 24 hours, taking the total up to 3,80,063. 

Tamil Nadu continues to conduct the highest number of COVID-19 tests in the country with 75,829 samples tested today and the overall count going up to 49,64,141. Likewise, the number of persons tested today are 73,883, with the total in the state going up to 47,99,905.
