Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday issued a new media bulletin in regard to the state's response to the coronavirus pandemic crisis. In the latest data released, 5,956 fresh positive cases were recorded on August 30 taking the total number of cases in the state to 4,28,041. The total number of active coronavirus cases across the state including those in isolation as on today is 52,578.

There were 1,150  new coronavirus positive cases reported in Chennai taking the district's total to 1,35,597 cases. The district has witnessed plenty of fluctuation over the past one month in the number of fresh cases being recorded, with the city consistently reporting 1,000 new cases on a daily basis despite a few occasions it went down below that mark. Chennai continues to remain the worst-affected in the state with 13,224 active cases, with Coimbatore (3,713), Salem (3,382) and Cuddalore (3,063) following suit as the districts with the highest number of active cases. 

91 people died on Tuesday across Tamil Nadu due to COVID-19 taking the state's death toll up to 7,322 casualties. The state has been constantly recording deaths between the 90 and 100 marks for the past few days, with a slight drop in between on a few occasions. Meanwhile, the recovery count keeps progressing forward at a steady pace as 6,008 patients got discharged over the past 24 hours, with the total going up to 3,68,141. 

Tamil Nadu is continuing to carry out the highest number of tests in the country as the state today tested 75,100 samples, while the overall count has gone up to 48,13,147. Likewise, the number of persons tested today are 73,097, with the total in the state going up to 46,52,867.
