Tamil Nadu government on Sunday issued a media bulletin in regard to the state combating the novel coronavirus. In the latest data released, 6,495 fresh positive cases were recorded on August 30, taking the total number of cases in the state to 4,22,085. The total number of active coronavirus cases across TN, including those in isolation as on today is 52,721. Tamil Nadu has moved down to the third state with the highest number of COVID-19 cases as Andhra Pradesh has surpassed and is currently showing 4,24,767 in total, as per the data released by the State Health Department. 

1,248 new coronavirus positive cases were reported in Chennai today taking the district's total to 1,34,436 cases. The district has been witnessing the number of fresh cases going past the 1200 mark over the past few days after a noticeable drop below the 1,000 mark on a couple occasion a few days back. The city remains the worst-affected in the state with 13,472 active cases while Coimbatore, Cuddalore and Salem districts are following suit with more than 3,000 active cases.

94 people died on Sunday across Tamil Nadu due to COVID-19 taking the state's death toll up to 7,231 casualties. The death toll in the state has witnessed an oscillation of late with fatalities recorded in 100s or sometimes fluctuating in the 80s and 90s mark. Meanwhile, the recovery count keeps progressing forward at a steady pace as 6,406 patients got discharged over the past 24 hours, with the total going up to 3,62,133. It is a neck and neck situation in terms of the number of fresh cases being recorded and the patients who are getting discharged after treatment for quite sometime. 

Tamil Nadu is continuing to carry out the highest number of tests in the country as the state today tested 83,250 samples, while the overall count has gone up to 47,38,047. Likewise, the number of persons tested today are 80,100, with the total in the state going up to 45,73,770.
