Leading actress-producer Taapsee Pannu took part in an Ask Me Anything (AMA) session on Instagram on Monday, July 16, and was posed with several queries from fans that included her plans for her upcoming films and one in Tamil titled Alien. Touted to be a sci-fi project, the upcoming Tamil film is being directed by Barath Neelakantan, who made his filmmaking debut with the thriller K-13 (2019), which had Arulnithi and Shraddha Srinath in starring roles. Announced back in mid-2021, Taapsee has now shared a few details about her role in Alien and expressed her excitement at wanting everyone to watch it soon.
Responding to a fan's query on her Instagram Story, Taapsee wrote, "My next Tamil film is called 'Alien,' and I am currently shooting it. There isn't much I can say about it, but it is a high-concept film. Those who enjoyed 'Game Over' will definitely appreciate it!" She added, "Just to clarify, I am not playing the role of the Alien. This film marks a new and different experience for me too." Concluding her statement, Taapsee wrote, "I am eagerly looking forward to having you watch it! (sic)". With Taapsee clarifying that she is not playing the role of an alien in Alien, fans will no doubt be looking to witness her deliver big time once again after her sensational performance in Game Over (2019) considering her last outing in Tamil, Annabelle Sethupathi (2021), released on Disney+Hotstar, received a mixed response.
Taapsee had a dream start to her career after her debut in Tamil in Aadukalam (2011), which went on to become a smash box office success, while also earning National Awards for the film's director Vetri Maaran and the lead actor Dhanush. Having appeared in several big Bollywood ventures, she has also been seen in notable Tamil films over the course of her career like Arrambam (2013) and Kanchana 2 (2015), and is currently awaiting the release of Jana Gana Mana opposite Jayam Ravi directed by Endrendrum Punnagai and Manithan fame I. Ahmed. Taapsee's next big release of 2023 is the highly-anticipated Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki directed by Rajkumar Hirani, which is scheduled to come out this December. She also has in the pipeline films like Woh Ladki Hai Kahaan alongside Scam 1992 actor Pratik Gandhi and the much-awaited sequel to hit Haseen Dilruba (2021) titled Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba.
