'Superstar' Rajinikanth, on Monday morning, January 29, defended his daughter Aishwarya's speech at the Lal Salaam audio launch and in particular about him being branded 'Sanghi' on social media. Addressing the topic during an interaction with the press at the Chennai Airport, the leading Tamil actor said, "She never said Sanghi is a bad word anywhere. What she meant was her father is a theist and loves all religions." Aishwarya, during the Lal Salaam audio launch last week, stated that her father Rajinikanth was not a Sanghi as being claimed by many on social networking forums.

Upon being queried whether Aishwarya's statements were made for the promotion of Lal Salaam, Rajinikanth denied the claims, while informing that the film has shaped up extremely well. The veteran actor also informed the press that he was en route to Hyderabad for the shooting of his next big film, Vettaiyan, being directed by Jai Bhim fame T. J. Gnanavel featuring music by Anirudh Ravichander. The Lal Salaam audio launch ceremony had taken place at a private college in Chennai on January 26 and witnessed several big names associated with the film grace the occasion.

Announced to open in cinemas worldwide on February 9, Lal Salaam has 'Superstar' Rajinikanth making a special appearance as Moideen bhai and stars Vishnu Vishal and Vikranth in the lead roles, while 1983 World Cup-winning captain and legendary Indian cricketer Kapil Dev will be seen in a cameo. The upcoming film has songs and a background score composed by Academy Award winner A. R. Rahman and marks Aishwarya Rajinikanth's comeback to filmmaking after 3 (2012), Vai Raja Vai (2015), and the documentary Cinema Veeran (2017), and is also the first time Rajinikanth is appearing under her direction after previously headlining his younger daughter Soundarya's directorial, Kochadaiiyaan (2014).
