There couldn't have been a better start for 'Thalapathy' Vijay's Leo, which has become the first Tamil film to hit the high note and enter the all-time global box office collection (GBOC) list on opening day with 148.5+ crores. The Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial powered by music composed by Anirudh Ravichander recorded the highest day worldwide gross collection of 2023 for an Indian film on day one and is set to carry forward the momentum in the days ahead on account of the Ayudha pooja holiday weekend. With Leo getting a massive head start at the box office, the film's team on late Friday evening, October 20, released a breakdown report of the first-day collections giving fans a look at the mammoth numbers registered around the world.
Among the big records, Vijay's Leo has raked in a moolah of 13 crores in the UK/Europe making it the highest day 1 gross collection for an Indian film. Likewise, the mass-action drama has grossed 6 crores in Malaysia while registering the all-time highest numbers on day 1 for an Indian film. The Vijay-starrer has also made 20 crores in gross collections on day 1 in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and is now the all-time highest for a Tamil film in the region. With Leo firing on all cylinders at the box office, the film has made 34 crores in Tamil Nadu in gross collections on day 1, while earning 16 crores in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, followed by 14 crores in Karnataka, 12 crores in Kerala, and 4 crores across the North Indian states. The film has also taken a sensational start in the US and Canada earning 18 crores, with the day 1 gross collections in other overseas countries standing at 11.5 crores. Considering Leo has been declared an industry hit, the box office numbers are expected to get bigger in the days ahead and we can expect the film to become one of the most significant successes in Tamil cinema history.
