Minister for Higher Education K. P. Anbalagan on Friday said colleges in Tamil Nadu will be reopened only after the state was coronavirus-free. Speaking during the inauguration of desilting works in two lakes in Dharmapuri, Minister Anbalagan said that the government will be open to considering reopening the colleges in the state for the next year only after all the campuses were thoroughly disinfected. As of now, isolation facilities have been set up in the college campuses, which are currently under the supervision of the Health Department.

Minister Anbalagan also stated that the government was initially planning to conduct semester exams while also beginning online registration for engineering counseling. Nevertheless, he added saying there must be no active COVID-19 cases in the state when the government decides to reopen colleges once again. He stated that students must not live in fear of contracting the disease while entering campuses since the colleges had housed isolation facilities.
