Desperate for answers about the theft of her 2 paintings, a Czech artist seeks out and befriends the career criminal who stole them. After inviting her thief to sit for a portrait, the two form an improbable relationship and an inextricable bond that will forever link these lonely souls. That’s the premise of Painter and the thief directed by Benjamin Ree. The filmmaker is best known for his debut film Magnus which was about the Norwegian chess master, Magnus Carlsen. This documentary film will be released on the 22nd of May. The makers have now released an interesting trailer for it.

In the trailer, you meet the two people at the center of a terrible crime, the painter that is heartbroken that two of her best works have been stolen and the person responsible for the theft. And when the painter figures out the identity of the criminal, she goes to meet him and the two develop a bond that neither of them could have guessed would happen.
