Blockbuster Tamil film director Venkat Prabhu has made several hit films, with his Mankatha released in 2011 and starring Ajith Kumar turning out to be a raging box office success. The action crime thriller, which was incidentally Ajith's 50th film, is held in high regard even today by the superstar's fans everywhere, with many since then expressing their desire for a sequel to be made. The talk surrounding a Mankatha sequel has been on for quite some time despite nothing much materializing till now. In the meantime, Venkat Prabhu responded to a tweet asking fans, "Name a film that deserves an immediate sequel", with the filmmaker responding with the answer, "Mankatha", while also adding a grimacing face emoji.

Venkat Prabhu's tweet has sent Ajith fans into a state of huge excitement and have joined the filmmaker to get the word out as much as possible in the hopes of Mankatha 2 being made a reality in the future. Produced by Cloud Nine Movies, Mankatha featured an ensemble cast that included Trisha, 'Action King' Arjun, Raai Laxmi, Anjali, Andrea Jeremiah, Vaibhav, Premgi Amaren, and Mahat Raghavendra, with composer Yuvan Shankar Raja churning chart-busters and a theme music that has since gone on to become iconic. It is to be noted that both Ajith and Venkat Prabhu had a formal meeting in early 2019 when the actor was filming his Nerkonda Paarvai and a photo of the duo shared by the director received a massive response. Whether Mankatha 2 gets made remains to be seen and Venkat Prabhu continuing to express his wish for the film will only leave fans wanting the same. Check out his tweet below:

As for their upcoming projects, Ajith will next be seen in the highly-anticipated Valimai directed by H. Vinoth under Boney Kapoor's Bayview Projects LLP banner and is targeting a release this year. Similarly, Venkat Prabhu is currently shuffling his time starting with promoting his next production venture, Kasada Thapara, directed by Chimbu Deven, which is premiering on August 27 on SonyLIV. On the directorial front, he is busy with the post-production works of his Maanaadu, starring Silambarasan TR in the lead role.
