The world continues to battle the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, with India currently witnessing the second wave, which has taken the positive cases count to 3,29,942 cases as on Tuesday. Overall, the number seems high, but a significant dip was witnessed in the number of active cases for the first time in two months, with Delhi recording 12,481 cases on May 11, it's lowest single-day total in 29 days. The country reported 3,48,421 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, with 3,55,338 recoveries and 4,205 deaths in the last 24 hours.

In that light, Tamil Nadu on Tuesday recorded  29,272 fresh COVID-19 cases, which was its single biggest day spike, thus taking the total number of cases in the state to 14,38,509, while the 298 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours has took the toll to 16,178. Although the drop in the positive cases will come as a relief, the key remains to sustain the momentum, which will provide the authorities an opportunity to carry forward in treating those affected, while breaking the transmission of the virus through lockdowns. As the Tamil Nadu government continues its vast efforts in controlling the spread of the virus through the full lockdown currently in effect till May 24, many from the Tamil film industry are stepping forward in extending their share of contributions.

On Wednesday, veteran Tamil actor Sivakumar and his sons Suriya and Karthi met with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin and donated Rs. 1 crore towards the CM relief fund for those battling COVID-19. Speaking to media persons, Sivakumar said, "We have to save the people from coronavirus. For that, we all need to come forward and do what can be done to extend support to them. And, our effort is a small one in that perspective, which will be useful. I request all those working in the press to maintain their health and please pray for the people to be healthy as well."
